Working hours and overtime rate in Qatar

How many days do you work in Qatar? Did you know that working more than a eight hours is calculated as over times? Officially, working hours  in Qatar are Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

How much you can earn per hour overtime?

Overtime rate and hours may not have mentioned on your agreement latter. Here is what you can get working per hour as an overtime. If you are an expat worker working in Qatar,  then your overtime rate per hour calculated like this.

Basic Salary ÷ 26 = One day QAR

One day salary ÷ 8 = One hour QAR

One hour QAR x Total Overtime x 1.25 = Total QAR

If your basic salary is QAR 5000 and your total overtime 50 hours in a month. Let’s calculate how much it becomes.  QAR5000 ÷26= QAR 192.3076 (For one day) QAR192.3076 ÷8Hrs = QAR 24.038 (For one hour) QAR 1201.9230×1.25 = QAR1502.403 your total income. 

According to the Qatar labour law section 35, regular working hours shall not exceed 8 hours daily, 48 hours weekly, for workers of legal age. This excludes the month of Ramadan, when regular working hours shall not exceed six hours daily, 36 hours weekly. Shift rotation workers regular hours shall not exceed 8 hours daily or six hours during the month of Ramadan.

What if you are working in Holiday?

According to the Qatar labor law Section 46 working hours in Qatar in holiday like Al-Fitr Eid (After Ramadan) 3 days, Al Adha Eid 3 days and Independence day 1 day which must be paid to the workers.

Holiday working hours in Qatar and rate

If you are working in holiday such as above mentioned,  then your working rate per hour will be 1.50 times more than normal hours.

For Example

If your basic salary is QAR 5000 and your total overtime 50 hours in a month. Let’s calculate how much it becomes.  QAR5000 ÷26= QAR 192.3076 (For one day) QAR192.3076 ÷8Hrs = QAR 24.038 (For one hour) QAR 1201.9230×1.50 times = QAR1802.884.
